TOKYO: India's Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh finish 11th in the men's lightweight double sculls event at the Olympics.

The Indian scullers finished fifth out of six in the Final ‘B,' the ranking race to determine the seventh to twelfth positions in the final standings.

Caetano Horta Pombo and Manel Balastegui of Spain won the race in 6:15.45, while Jerzy Kowalski and Artur Mikolajczewski of Poland finished second in 6:16.01.

Kristoffer Brun and Weierholt Strandli of Norway did not start the six-boat race.

This is India's best-ever performance at the Olympic Games.

Manjeet Singh and Devender Khandwal finished 18th in the same event at the 2008 Beijing Games, while Bajranglal Takhar was ranked 21st in single sculls.

Meanwhile, Dattu Bhokanal finished 13th in the single sculls competition at Rio 2016.

The Indian duo didn't get off to the best of starts on the Seaforest Waterway, falling behind the pack early on.

Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh eventually finished 14 seconds behind the race winners.

The Indian pair performed admirably at the Tokyo Olympics.

After finishing fifth out of six in the preliminary heats, the scullers took advantage of the repechage opportunity to advance to the semi-finals.

However, paired with world champions Fintan McCarthy and Paul O'donovan of Ireland, as well as other European heavyweights, Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh were unable to qualify for the medal race.
