Pravin Jadhav lone Olympian in 16 member squad
PUNE: Tokyo Olympian Pravin Jadhav qualified for the Indian squad for the 2021 Asian archery championship by finishing in the top four of the men's recurve selection trials in Jamshedpur.
Pravin Jadhav's first international appearance since returning from Tokyo 2020 will be at the Asian Championships in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in November. The 25-year-old was unable to compete in last month's world championship in the United States.
Along with Pravin Jadhav, Parth Salunkhe, the newly crowned national champion, has also confirmed his participation in the continental showpiece. The men's recurve team also includes national runner-up Sukhchain Singh and Kapil.
Dipti Kumari, the women's national champion, was unable to continue her winning streak at the selection trials and missed the bus.
The women's recurve team included reigning youth world champion Komalika Bari, Ankita Bhakat, Ridhi Phor, and Madhu Vedwan. Komalika, Ankita, and Ridhi had previously represented India at the World Championships in 2021.
In the women's compound team, world silver medalist and national champion Jyothi Surekha Vennam was joined by familiar teammates Muskan Kirar, Priya Gurjar, and Parneet Kaur. Jyothi, Muskan, and Priya had won team silver at the world championships in September.
Meanwhile, former Asian champion Abhishek Verma used his national meet purple patch to qualify for the continental competition. In the men's compound team, he will be joined by Rishabh Yadav, Aman Saini, and Mohit.
