Afghanistan complete Dutch whitewash
Grab crucial Cricket World Cup Super League points
DOHA: Afghanistan won the series 3-0 over the Netherlands to earn 30 World Cup Super League points.
Afghanistan won by 75 runs in Doha on Tuesday, with half-centuries from Najibullah Zadran and newcomer Riaz Hassan, as well as a three-wicket haul from another debutant Qais Ahmad. Afghanistan now leads the ODI series 3-0.
Afghanistan batted first and was led by 19-year-old opener Riaz on debut. The Netherlands managed to dismiss the previous game's centurion, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, for 12, but Riaz and Rahmat Shah put up an 86-run partnership to resurrect the innings.
After Saqib Zulfiqar broke the partnership by dismissing Riaz, the Netherlands quickly added another wicket, with Rahmat caught in the 33rd over. With help from the lower middle-order, Najibullah Zadran built a magnificent half-century. Afghanistan scored 254/5 in 50 overs, with Najibullah finishing on 71 off 59 balls.
In response, the Netherlands got off to a strong start, with Scott Edwards once again leading the charge. Colin Ackermann gave him company, and the pair foiled Afghanistan's new ball plans. The openers laid a solid foundation, taking the total to 50 in 10 overs.
They kept going in the same vein, putting on 103 for the first wicket before Afghanistan's debutant Qais broke the stand with his maiden ODI wicket, Edwards, was trapped in front by the leg-spinner. Fareed Ahmad dismissed skipper Pieter Seelaar for a duck, giving Afghanistan the opportunity to put a shackle on the chase.
With Boris Gorlee, Bas de Leede, and the experienced Colin Ackermann, who made 81 off 96 balls, also back in the hut, the Netherlands quickly went from 103/0 to 153/5. At this point, the tables had flipped, and Afghanistan was in command of the game. They went on to bowl out the Netherlands for 179 runs to win a 75-run victory and a series sweep.
