PUNE: The Maharashtra (WIFA) men's team began their campaign on a high note, defeating Madhya Pradesh 3-0 in a Group-B league match of the West Zone qualifier for the AIFF Senior Men's National Football Championship on Friday at the Poornima University ground in Jaipur.

Madhya Pradesh fought hard and did well to keep Maharashtra from scoring in the first 45 minutes, as the teams headed into the halftime break goalless.

After switching ends, though, Maharashtra commanded terms and scored three times to win the match.

Substitutes Advait Shinde scored the game's first goal in the 58th minute, then Siddharth Colaco and Aimar Adam added two late goals in the 82nd and 83rd minutes to seal Maharashtra's triumph.

On Sunday, Maharashtra will face hosts Rajasthan in the last group encounter. A victory will ensure Mahrashtra's advancement to the next round of the competition.
