Initially, it was gully cricket with her brother and confined to her colony in Tata Nagar till the 10th standard. After the board exams, when I went out to seek admission for higher education, I found it difficult, courtesy of my atrocious marks (chuckles). My parents were worried. The second-best college in Jamshedpur, the city in which I was born and brought up, denied admission to me.
Striking past remembrance?
Denied admission by Jamshedpur Women's College in 1986. Reason: poor marks in the Xth Board exams. On father's request (via a good acquaintance) for a slot in the sports quota, she secured admission after on spot trials. Interestingly it was the first time she had seen a leather ball and bowled with one.
When did she begin professional cricket?
It was in 1986. First, college and in the same year Bihar and East Zone

In 1988 she was summoned for the National camp. Later, she was selected for India's tour of England in 1999 but did not play a single match!
Did she have a break in her playing career?
Yes, she did take a sabbatical for 4 years. In 1991 she got married and returned to cricket in 1995

In 2004 she quit and turned to coaching

She turned coach in 2007. Her first assignment was with South Central Railways (SCR) and later, Hyderabad Women’s U-19 team

Won Inter-Railway title for SCR. The win meant she completed a 'double'! First, as a player (1995) and then as a coach (2009)
