MELBOURNE: French Open champions Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova won the Australian Open women's doubles title on Sunday, defeating Anna Danilina and Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-4.

The top seeds, who were beaten finalists at Melbourne Park last year, took their time getting going and had to fight back from a set down to win the title for the first time.

The unseeded pair won the opening set in a tiebreak, but the scores were levelled at the end of the second as the Czech pair regained their rhythm.

Five games into the deciding set, Krejcikova and Siniakova broke on Haddad Maia's serve to take the lead, and Siniakova's forehand winner down the line on Danilina's serve two games later increased the lead.

Danilina's shot at the net got a break back, halting their opponents' celebrations, but Krejcikova held her serve to win the match.

The win is the Czech duo's fourth Grand Slam title together, after having claimed the French Open in 2018 and 2021 and Wimbledon in 2018.
