MANAMA: Formula One drivers will assemble on the grid ahead of the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday to raise awareness of UNICEF's emergency fundraising appeal for its programs for children and families in Ukraine and other conflict zones, the sport announced on Sunday.
The 20 drivers will stand on the grid behind a banner in support of the plea, inviting spectators to consider donating to the United Nations Children's Fund.
Formula One and its teams have already provided a "substantial donation," according to the sport, without revealing a figure.

On February 24, Russia invaded Ukraine.
According to UN estimates, almost three million people have fled the conflict for other countries in what has become Europe's fastest-growing refugee crisis since World War II.
Russia refers to its operations in Ukraine as a "special military operation."
