Bangalore Club defeated Malleswaram Association 3-0 in the finals
Bangalore Club emerged as the Champion Club in the Inter-Club tennis tournament conducted by Senior Tennis Players Association of Karnataka (STEPAK). Bangalore Club defeated Malleswaram Association 3-0 in the finals played at the KGS Club courts here on Sunday.
A total of 10 teams were in fray. The tournament was played on a round-robin league basis with the top four clubs entering the semifinals. While Malleswaram Association outplayed Sadashivanagar Club in the first semifinal, Bangalore Club beat City Institute in the other semifinal. The winning team was awarded Rs 70,000 for its efforts while the runner-up team was richer by Rs 30,000. The losing semi-finalists received Rs 15,000 each.
The tournament format consisted of one singles match in the age group of over-35 and four doubles matches - one each in the 35-45, 46-55 and 56-65 age category and the last one where the combined age of the team was over-155 with the lower-aged player being a minimum of 50.
