OMAN: Scotland defeated Bangladesh by six runs in the second game of Round 1 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021, with 31-year-old Chris Greaves leading the way with the bat and ball.

Scotland staged an outstanding comeback in their first game of the tournament, defeating Bangladesh in Group B.

Scotland, who were 53/6 after 12 overs, fought back strongly to set Bangladesh a challenging target of 141, thanks to a 51-run seventh-wicket stand between Chris Greaves and Mark Watt.

Bangladesh was always behind the eight ball with the bat as Scotland bowled brilliantly to keep The Tigers at bay. In the end, the lower-order batters couldn't keep up with the asking rate, and Scotland won by six runs.

If Scotland were to prevent Bangladesh from cruising in their chase, they needed early wickets. After flicking the ball straight into the hands of deep mid-wicket, Soumya Sarkar was the first batter to make the long walk back. Liton Das attempted to take the aerial route two overs later but was intercepted by Munsey at mid-off.

Scotland's bowlers kept the scoring down by preventing Bangladesh from scoring a boundary for six overs. Mushfiqur Rahim finally broke the shackles off Leask, hitting two sixes in two balls as The Tigers went into the drinks break at 59/2.

Greaves turned the game around with the ball in hand after bailing Scotland out of trouble with the bat.

With the required rate increasing, Shakib and Rahim needed to score more runs, but in doing so, they lost their wickets at a critical juncture.

Shakib failed to put away a half-tracker and hit it to Calum MacLeod, who completed a good running catch on the boundary. Greaves got his second wicket in his next over, as the experienced Rahim fell victim to a well-planned ramp shot.

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat against Scotland in the second game of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021.

Bangladesh's decision to bring in an extra pacer paid dividends almost immediately. Mohammad Saifuddin scored first, after Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman limited Scotland's scoring. Kyle Coetzer, the skipper, had no answer for Saifuddin's inch-perfect yorker and was forced to walk back without scoring.

George Munsey and Matthew Cross consolidated the innings and then took full advantage of the fielding restrictions, scoring 23 runs in the Powerplay's final overs.

Scotland's set batters were knocked out in quick succession as Mahedi Hasan made an immediate impact after being introduced into the attack. He first trapped Cross in front of the stumps before arm-balling Munsey out.

Shakib Al Hasan added another feather to his cap two overs later. With the wicket of Richie Berrington, he tied Lasith Malinga for the most wickets in Men's T20Is before passing the Sri Lankan pacer two balls later with the wicket of Michael Leask.

Scotland fell further after losing Calum MacLeod, dropping from 45/1 to 53/6.

Scotland was staring down the barrel at the end of the 12th over when Chris Greaves and Mark Watt came to their rescue. Greaves and Watt upped the ante and continued to find the boundaries while bowling at well under six runs per over.

They brought up the 50-run partnership in 33 balls with a boundary after taking the team past the 100-run mark. Greaves took the attack to Taskin Ahmed after Watt was dismissed, hitting two fours and a six off the next three balls.

Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Greaves and Josh Davey in the final over to ensure Scotland's innings did not end on a high note, as they finished on 140/9.

On Tuesday, October 19, Scotland will play PNG, while Bangladesh will play co-hosts Oman in the second match of the day.
