Pune: Hosts Pune, defending champs Kolhapur, runners up Nagpur and Mumbai booked themselves a berth in the last four of the Western India Football Association (WIFA) Inter District Men’s (Open) Football Tournament 2022 at the Shiv Chhatrapathi Sports Complex, Mhalunge-Balewadi, on Saturday.
The tournament hosted by the Poona District Football Association (PDFA) had all four winners of the day ease past their opponents without conceding a goal in their respective matches.
Pune booked their berth in a later afternoon encounter registering a 2-0 win over Solapur. The hosts went ahead in the first minute when Sudeesh M scored, later Satish Hawaldar (57th) doubled the tally to take his team through.
HIMANSHU STARS FOR MUMBAI
Mumbai rode on a four-goal effort by Himanshu Patil to subdue Sangli 5-0.
In the first-half, Himanshu struck his first in the 23rd minute and then at the stroke (40+2) of half-time netted his second. Tejas R (27th) added to the tally to help Mumbai lead 3-0.
Switching sides, Himamshu (46th, 65th) completed the tally.
SUFIYAN POWERS NAGPUR
Nagpur locked their berth by knocking out Aurangabad 5-0. An early goal by Stanley Peter (5th) was the scoring-order of the first-half.
However, after the switch of sides, Nagpur changed gears as Sufiyan (40th, 68th, 78th) struck form to swelled his team's tally. Goals from P Tushal (66th) and Mehul Sindram (76th) added into the final scoreline.
CLINICAL KOLHAPUR ROLL ON
Kolhapur struck twice in each half against Parbhani to settle the issue 4-0 in their favour.
Indrajeet Chougule (19th) opened the account, before the scoring-action shifted to Karan Chavan (45th), Arbas Bagwan (62nd) and Prathamesh Herekar (76th) which concluded action.
