Delhi Capitals 139/2 (Shreyas Iyer 47*, Shikhar Dhawan 42; Rashid Khan 1/26) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 134/9 (Abdul Samad 28, Rashid Khan 22; Kagiso Rabada 3/37) by eight wickets

DUBAI: Bowlers came to the party, and Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, and captain Rishabh Pant contributed with the bat as Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets in Match 33 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in Dubai.

With 135 runs needed to win, DC got off to a fast start, thanks to Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw.

SRH, on the other hand, had their first success with the ball in the third over, when captain Kane Williamson dismissed Shaw with a stunning running-catch off Khaleel Ahmed.

Shreyas Iyer came in for Shaw in the middle, and he and Dhawan took DC to 39/1 after the powerplay ended.

The two scored quickly and put on an important fifty-run stand in the 11th over.

Their partnership, however, was shattered in the same over when Rashid Khan dismissed Dhawan for 42 after Abdul Samad took a good catch in the deep.

Pant and Iyer then joined forces to ensure DC's charge continued. The pair put on an unbroken 67-run stand to help DC win with 2.1 overs to spare. Pant hit a quickfire 35* off 21 balls, while Iyer scored 47*.

Earlier, after opting to bat, SRH lost David Warner to Anrich Nortje in the first over. While Wriddhiman Saha and Williamson added 29 runs, DC struck for the second time in the fifth over when Kagiso Rabada dismissed the SRH wicketkeeper for 18.

Following Saha's fall, Manish Pandey joined Williamson in the middle. The pair kept the scoreboard ticking and took SRH past fifty before Williamson received two reprieves, one from Rishabh Pant and one from Prithvi Shaw.

But it didn't cost DC much because Shimron Hetmyer held on to a catch in the deep off Axar Patel shortly after. Rabada then took his second wicket of the match, dismissing Pandey in the 11th over.

Kedar Jadhav was the next man out, as Nortje trapped him before the wickets for his second wicket of the night. As Axar got the better of Jason Holder, DC continued to chip away.

Rashid and Samad then added a crucial 25 runs to take SRH past 110 before Rabada dismissed Samad after he scored a crucial 28. Rashid, meanwhile, fought hard and scored 22 before being run-out for 22 in the final over.
