SHARJAH: Afghanistan and Scotland kicked off their Super 12 campaigns at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Sharjah with a one-sided Group 2 clash.

Afghanistan's spinners ripped through Scotland's batting order as Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Rashid Khan, and company spun their side to a 130-run victory in Sharjah, the country's largest margin of victory in T20 internationals.

Mujeeb was the star of the show with the ball, taking three wickets in an over and finishing with a five-for, the best ever return for a T20 World Cup debut bowler.

Earlier, Najibullah Zadran top-scored with 59 as Afghanistan reached 190/4, the highest T20 World Cup score.

Afghanistan made a quick start after winning the toss and electing to bat, with openers Hazratullah Zazai and Mohammad Shahzad finding the boundary repeatedly in a 54-run Powerplay partnership.

In the sixth over, Shahzad fell to Safyaan Sharif, holing out to deep midwicket.

And Zazai's dangerous knock came to an end at the midpoint of Afghanistan's innings, when he failed to connect well with a swipe across the line and was bowled for 44 off 30 by Mark Watt.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Najib continued where the openers left off, with the teenager Gurbaz hitting four sixes in his 46-ball 37.

Gurbaz's aggressive knock was finally stopped by Josh Davey in the final over, but Najib and skipper Mohammad Nabi went big at the end, with the captain hitting 11 off just four balls.

And Najib was caught on the boundary for 59 off 34 balls on the final ball of the innings.

Watt finished as the pick of the bowlers for Scotland, with his wicket costing only 23 runs in four overs, while Safyaan Sharif also impressed with 2-33.

Scotland's chase got off to a fast start when George Munsey reverse swept Nabi for four off the second ball, then reverse swept for six the next delivery.

But, in the fourth over, Mujeeb removed Kyle Coetzer and Caleb MacLeod in consecutive deliveries, before picking up Richie Berrington with the last ball of the over, Scotland's hopes of reaching the daunting 191-run target were all but dashed.

Scotland was already five wickets down before Rashid Khan even got his hands on the ball, and the Afghanistan talisman took his first wicket with his third delivery, trapping Michael Leask in front.

Mujeeb finished with 5/20 off four overs, while Rashid finished in style, taking 4/9 off just 14 balls.
